I would never have thought of having an au pair, until a friend suggested it. “It is far too expensive, and far too middle class” were my immediate reactions. Then I looked in to it, and quickly realised it was cheaper than a childminder, and by far the best thing for our family.
SIX au pairs on I can see there have been many blessings: my children have grown to know and love people from around the world and from a range of Christian traditions, who they would not otherwise have met.

As a family we’ve been blessed by their help, support, and good example of young people of faith.
It does take effort and negotiation to have a happy au pair year. You need to work at making your needs and expectations clear. Also at understanding the needs of a young person who may never have lived away from home before, let alone in another country. Some take to it with relish, others find it harder. Overall its a joy to grow together.
I’d recommend it. Listen, love, talk.

Blessings,
