We had never even heard of anyone getting an Aupair and had no idea where to turn (we live in a smallish town). Mark did a wonderful job of finding a great fit for our family. He told us what to do every step of the way and was always available to assist. The good news was that he did such a good job vetting the girls and setting expectations that there was very little he had to help with once our girl came the USA.
Martina was such a good fit with our family; she stayed for 2nd year. She completely melted into our family and was great with our kids. She was helpful in so many ways that I cannot even begin to list them all. Most succinctly, it was as if our kids had an older sister who they could rely on and find help in an ongoing and caring manner. One of the best parts of having a Christian Aupair, was that whenever the inevitable family disagreements came up, we had a common ground and grounding in God to rely upon.
Our girl made many friends here in the US, particularly at church, but was always a part of our family in the day to day activities. It was really like we had another daughter (albeit one who was grown up and could drive and take care of the little ones). We even decided to have our kids study German while she was here (we homeschool). She bought into the idea so much that she constantly helped them with their language studies. It was so successful that our oldest (12 years old at the time) went back home with her at the end of the 2 years and lived with her family and traveled for a month – obviously practicing her language skills the entire time.
After her 2 years with us we stay in constant contact. In fact, as soon as Martina had enough vacation time with her new job back home, she came back for a visit. We miss her greatly and are so glad Mark made the introduction. Our lives and that of our kids are forever better because of the experience.
